We live in an age of occultism, fortune tellers, sorcery, curses, falsehood...and many times we are being deceived by many religious movements of our time that not only present a false hope but also a false gospel.
Because we long for spirituality as a generation, many are seeking to hear more and through that process get lost in the words of false prophets. The words of Paul in 2 Timothy are very present in our time:
“ For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” (2 Tim. 4:3)
In Acts chapter 8, we see a man, Simon, whose powers and miracles were leading people to become his followers…so much, that the people would say that Simon was the Great Power of God. This deceitful and arrogant man, that relied on gullible people and sorcery could not overcome the power of Christ and the Holy Spirit, the spirit he followed was a spirit of death. Phillip, a lay person, empowered by the Holy Spirit shared the good news of Christ with the followers of Simon, and they believed and were baptized!
The power of His Holy Spirit upon his people will ALWAYS overcome hypocrisy, falsehood, and all evil! If there is a true infilling of the Spirit in His Church we would experience lives changing, divine healing, miraculous signs…but if we don’t allow this to happen out of fear people will surely search to find these signs elsewhere.
As followers of Christ: We cannot exercise the authority of the true Jesus if we are not under the authority of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We cannot be a light in the darkness and the occult if the Holy Spirit has not filled us.
May our lives be truly guided by the Holy Spirit and be the light in the darkness of this world!
